FANtastic Weekend

Happy Monday everyone! What’s that? It’s Tuesday? Oh, sorry… It’s a Monday for me! =P
That’s because I took a nice little 4-day weekend, where I followed my father-in-law and his brothers and sons into the woods. There, they proceeded to tie me to a tree and let racoons gnaw at my ankles. Just kidding, of course. I was the only in-law there, and did my best to make my wife and parents proud by winning the farting/belching contest. I even got a nifty t-shirt to show for it! We did see a lot of really big coons in our camp, but none actually chewed on any of my appendages.
Anyhow, the weekend was pleasant, though maybe a tad warm. It wasn’t bad under the tree canopy, and thankfully we stayed in cabins that had running water and electricity. That allowed me to bring a box fan to keep us cool at night. The fishing wasn’t bad for some of the guys, though I only managed to catch one crappie by his belly. Don’t ask, because I can’t explain it either. Overall, it was pretty relaxing. I have some pictures I’ll put up later.
Since I had yesterday off, I also finally got around to cleaning up a “vintage” fan that my mom and aunt acquired for me about 4-5 years ago. I’ve always liked the old desk fans from the early-mid 1900s, and this one is pretty cool (pun intended). I don’t like to refer to this as an “antique” so much as “vintage”. It’s just a classic, heavy metal fan (and by that, I don’t mean it likes Black Sabbath). Moving on… it was most likely made during the early 40s, and actually works quite well. The finish is a little worn, but it’s quieter than most new fans. I would like to restore it, but don’t really have the know-how and tools to do so myself. That means paying someone, which also means it will probably have to wait. I’ve been told the fan is worth about $50 unrestored, and $350 restored. Of course, it might cost as much as $300 to get it restored. Go figure. Just cleaning it up made a huge difference for now.
Stay cool!
