Happy New Year!

Posted by mike on 31st December 2008

I just wanted to get in a quick “Happy New Year”! I hope to keep up with this better in 2009, but then I say that every year. lol! My personal resolutions for the new year are as follows:

1) Keep exercising and losing weight to attain my target/goal weight of 199lbs (currently @225lbs).
2) Spend less time on the computer late at night and get in bed at a decent hour.
3) Keep riding horses and show at least one time in 2009.
4) Update my blog more frequently. =)

As for my 2008 resolutions, they were to exercise more and lose weight, which I’ve accomplished (at least in the last 6 months). Another was to get up earlier and on time, which I have generally accomplished now that Troy is picking me up for work at 6:30am. haha!

One more thing… I wanted to pass along a link to a site that I use frequently for saving money when buying stuff online. The website is called “RetailMeNot“, and you can find quite a few stores and sites listed. The site is legit and is well layed out. It is also not loaded with generic “out-links” (no real content) like many coupon sites. People enter discount codes there and others rank whether they worked or not. I’ve saved quite a bit of cash using this site!

Oh, Crappy Day

Posted by mike on 21st December 2008

Last Friday was a crappy day. It started like any other day except… it didn’t. I had to drive myself to work, which isn’t a problem excepting it takes me 20 minutes to warm up my truck this time of year. And that in itself isn’t a problem, except I somehow overslept by an hour. I messaged my boss and said I was running a bit late. Not too big of a deal, but that was Strike one.

After a rush-hour drive in pouring rain, work that morning wasn’t too awful, just busy. I had a lot to do to get ready for my vacation (I’m off for 2 weeks… yea!!). Around noon, my co-worker Tim asked a couple of us if we wanted to go to the Seelbach for lunch. He had some free meal vouchers that had been given to us by our trainer during a recent course we attended. He had some kind of issue and they had given him a handful of them. It was pleasant enough outside, so we walked there (about 10 blocks). I enjoyed a very tasty Angus burger ($10) and diet coke ($2.50), and then chased my meal with a slice of cheesecake ($6). In fact, the meal was great until the manager came over and asked to see the vouchers Timmy had informed our waitress about. See where this is going? The fine print said “Valid for Breakfast Only.” Strike two.

After lunch, I went back to my desk and wrapped up everything I could. Then the calls streamed in. People needed/wanted this or that ASAP. A flurry of emails and calls ensued, and I finally managed to put everything to bed around 6pm. I had phoned in a pizza for pick-up, so I had to skip my workout (it was a weights day). Dang. I was hoping to work off the cheesecake. And I was running about 10 minutes late picking up the pizza. Strike three.
