Snow Business

Posted by mike on January 28th, 2009

snow stormIt seems like these days we can’t get normal weather. We don’t just get a thunderstorm, we get tornadic weather. We don’t just get heat, we get scorched. Regular snowfall? Nope… blizzard. The Ohio Valley is one of the few places on Earth I know of that has temperature swings of 30° in a day. The weather here just sucks. If it weren’t such a pain, I’d love to live somewhere where at least the weather can be anticipated regularly. Of course, I guess weather extremes are getting to be the “norm” pretty much everywhere now.

So right now we are undergoing our latest adventure. It started with around 5″ of snow Monday night. That was enough to cancel schools, work, etc. Then we got around 1/2″ to 1″ of ICE yesterday and last night. Now, this morning, it’s snowing on top of the ice. We’ve gotten probably 3″ of fresh white stuff already. No school or work again today. Power is out everywhere to thousands of homes, though miraculously we still have it at the moment (it keeps flashing… I’ll be lucky if I can get this posted). They’ve declared states of emergency in several surrounding counties. Even Fort Knox is closed! Interstates are buried, too.

Anyhow, I went outside and snapped some pictures this morning. Well, actually I didn’t GO outside… I just stuck my head out the door. So I didn’t get anything that will win me a Pulitzer, but they give a good example of what we’ve got out there right now. You can click here to check them out or click the picture in the top corner.
